Then you'll reach a town full of chatty NPCs, and if you decide to take Obsidian Entertainment up on the devs' promise of playing however you like and attack the townspeople, the locals will react by running around and fighting back. Identical to the one-handed strong attack, but higher damage. Higher poise damage than standard attack, making it good for breaking guard and stun-locking low-poise targets. Good against targets both above and below the player, as well as in tight spaces. Wide horizontal angle makes this a good attack for handling evasive targets. The Darksword also blends together its one-handed light and heavy attacks, making it an excellent weapon for aggressive advances, much like the Silver Knight Straight Sword. Correctly used in attacking in succession, this can stun-lock moderate-poise builds, and rack up damage quickly. The Darksword inflicts more Poise damage than other straight swords, especially with its 2-handed weak attack. Like most straight swords, its scaling is mediocre, but it makes up for it with excellent balance and utility. The Darksword is a bit of an oddity amongst other straight swords rather like the Broadsword, it attacks are almost exclusively slash attacks (excluding the 2-handed rolling attack, which is a thrust attack) and is one of the heaviest straight swords obtainable in the game, being as heavy as the Claymore and Bastard Sword however, it's also one of the longest straight swords, rivalling the range of the Balder Side Sword, and offers a number of unique advantages. The Darksword is obtained by reaching rank 2 in the Darkwraith covenant.
